Carolyn Watson has been a member of People First for many years. She is a well respected and well known self advocate from Ulverston.
Carolyn decided some year’s ago that she wanted to develop herself and felt that this was not possible in the day centre she attended.
Carolyn left and started out on a journey of self development.
Recently elected as the Chairperson of People First Carolyn’s been watching and waiting to make big changes.
At a recent Board of Directors meeting Carolyn unveiled her new plan for how she wants People First to run.
Directors will each take more responsibility for particular areas such as North, South, West, Members, finance etc.
Each Director will deliver a monthly report on developments and progress made within their area of work.
Carolyn wants the board to work better and staff at People First to be needed less.
Andrew’s usual monthly activity report will be replaced by visual reports given by the Directors.
David Blacklock, Chief Executive said:
“I’m delighted that Carolyn has big plans for developing the Board. She wants people to have a greater share of jobs and responsibility. It’s wonderful.”
Andrew Matthews, Chief Executive, said:
“She’s been waiting for this day for years.”
The new responsibilities on Directors will take immediate effect. People First staff will work hard to ensure all Directors receive the support they need to ‘monitor’ their area of interest.
Carolyn told the Board members and the Senior Management team about her vision for the future of People First.
“We have to give people opportunities to develop. I got one and look at me now!”
Everyone of the Directors will have to work hard to make sure Carolyn’s vision is carried through.
