On Friday I took my children, George and Daisy, to Heathlands Farm to a ‘Space
Day’ to celebrate the end of a 2 week summer project. For those of you who don’t
know Heathlands Farm is a daytime opportunity for people with the label of a
learning difficulty and is run by the Glenmore Trust. Heathlands Farm offers lots of
things to do including creative arts, training, community activities and horticulture.
The weather was wet; well it is the summer holidays! We wrapped up in pac-macs
and wellies and I even managed to drag a friend and her children along too!
When we arrived at Heathlands Farm we were given a time table of events. There
were puppet shows, face painting, badge making, musical performances, a chill out
zone and even a space disco. The event had a real festival feel and was really good
fun.
There were lots of people from the local community and it was a fabulous event
where people with the label of a learning difficulty, who are often excluded from
society, were performing with children and adults without the label.
George and Daisy had a fabulous time and enjoyed seeing People First’s Director
John Dias dressed up as a space creature!
