About This Page
People First is an independent organisation, this
means we are not run or controlled by any other
service.
We help people who have learning difficulties to
speak up for themselves and get their views across in
whatever way they can.
People First has worked in Cumbria since 1990.
Our organisation supports people to say how they
want their lives to be, and we speak up for people who can’t 
do this for themselves.
Sometimes people might need a little support to get their
point across or deal with a difficult situation.
We think that everyone should be treated the same.
We think everyone has the same rights and
should be included and treated fairly.
Our main aims are to:
- Help people to have a voice
- Help people to be in control of their lives
- Help people to understand their rights and try to make sure everyone else respects them too
- Support people to understand their choices
- To help people to solve problems
- To be proactive. This means rather than just complaining we will help sort out difficult situations
- To work in partnership
People First is part of the international advocacy movement.
