We do small and large scale research projects, in lots of different ways – action
research, oral histories, looking in books and learning from peoples experiences.
The Carlisle People First Research Team started working together in the 1990’s.
We take an inclusive approach to research. This means that researchers with
learning difficulties work together with non-disabled researchers. We think this is a
good place to start from because we know a lot about the lives of people with
learning difficulties, because of our experiences.
Our research group designed an accessible ‘research cycle’ that we use as a
process to go through for planning and doing our projects. The Carlisle People
First Research Team work as a co-operative. This means all members of the group
are equal. This is because we all have different skills we can give the other
members of the team. We think it’s important to tell people how we do our research,
as well as tell them about our research.
‘Keeping Wartime Memories Alive’ is an oral history project.
